Description
Who knew, (though I know these birds will eat just about anything.) This one was fishing in an area along the shore, where a great and snowy egret were working the shoreline. Perhaps it learned by watching them. Unlike the egrets, the grackle wasn't able to swallow the fish in one gulp and walked around with it in its bill for a bit before flying off with it where it probably torn it into manageable pieces. I saw (probably) the same bird do it twice in a five minute (or so) span. While the photo won't win any awards, I think it captured something many people may not have seen or imagined.
